Advice Notes :-
[a] Liquid dosing for secondary sanitising biocide [ Suprox or Chlorine dioxide] [b] In line empty
5 inch filter body for solid tablet dosing regime [ Haz –Tabs] This is the delivery system for ensuring that a biocide [ different to the duty biocide applied to the system] is dosed at a rate, which will adequately disinfect the unit. A choice of solid or liquid is available. The choice should reflect the need to remove biofilms. [c] Water
Softener Water
softeners pose a number of problems. They can be a breeding ground for
microorganisms. They can be difficult to sanitise. The manufacturer should
be consulted before using sanitising protocol is adopted to ensure that it
does not damage the resins. HTM 2030has limits set on hardness and conductivity. These units can give degrees of performance, which may impact negatively on the HTM 2030 guideline. [d] Duty
Standby particulate filters – throw away or self-cleaning] Duty standby design has the advantage of being easier to remove and clean. It also ensures the minimum of downtime. Self-cleaning filters are available and if budgets permit they should be considered. [Available in sub micron sizes [molecular sieve sizes]] [e] Ultra
filtration rig with carbon treatment R.O
has major advantages over other systems. These systems are always
protected with carbon filters to protect the membranes from chlorine. The
downside of this is the risk of infection within the filter. Silver
impregnated media is one answer. But regular changing is the only real
safeguard. The manufacturer will provide a detailed cleaning schedule. It is wise to follow this to the letter. The membranes are easy to damage. [Can be costly] [f] Water storage
– various designs with a UV sanitiser All
storage systems are problematical in terms of infection control. Soak
flush protocols must be adopted to ensure that infection is kept under
control. Bladder
tank storages can store water aseptically and should be considered.
Another option for stored water is to keep it moving and protect the air
space above the unit and the delivery lines with UV radiation @ 254nM [g] Internal Water storage and filters [usually 0. 2 micron or smaller] [h] Washing Machine has its own sanitising function for making sure all the components are disinfected to HTM 2030 standards. [I]
This is a purge valve to drain . It keeps the water system clean by
purging for 5min / 2hr
at night and at weekends. This will help
to ensure that the system is kept free form bugs. Most washer disinfectors have an
integral sub micron filter, which can be replaced or cleaned. Some have an
integral storage tank. The design of the system should address
the needs of HTM 2030 in terms of sanitising It should be part of the washer
disinfector’s wash program. Drain purge can be a solenoid valve on a simple timer device.
